New Delhi: American boy band Backstreet Boys and legendary singer Richard Marx are set to perform here Feb 20, as a part of the annual Rock ‘n India mega music festival.

While the Grammy-nominated vocal group has been together since 1993 giving hits like “Quit playing games with my heart”, “Straight through my heart” and “As long as you love me”, Marx has sold over 30 million albums over 20 years and written hits like “Right here waiting for you”, “Hold on to the nights” and “Endless summer nights”.

Noteworthy is that the Bangalore-based annual music festival, that has earlier been graced by international bands like Megadeth, Machine Head and Iron Maiden, is being held in the capital for the first time. It will also be held in Bangalore after Delhi.

“We are brining Romanov Red Rock ‘N India to Delhi for the first time this year and what’s more this year will be even more exciting as music legends from different musical genres will rub their shoulders together so that fans can chase their passion for the best of national and international music,” Debashish Shyam, Divisional Vice President (DVP), United Spirits, said in a statement.

Romanov Red, a product of United Spirits, is the official sponsor of the music festival in association with Force India, Pepsi, VH1, Hindustan Times and Daily News and Analysis.

The tone of music at the gala has also been mellowed down this year. It will now focus on classic rock than mainstream.

Also accompanying Backstreet Boys and Marx at the fest will be South African explosive alternative band Prime Circle, drummer Jayce Lewis, supported by Indian bands Swarathma and Indigo Children.

The festival will take place at NSIC Grounds, New Delhi followed by a gig in Bangalore Feb 22 at Gayatri Vihar, Palace Grounds.

Tickets to the show are priced at Rs.1500 in Delhi and Rs.1000 in Bangalore.

Hugh Grant

Hollywood actor Hugh Grant is planning to launch a career as an author after years of harbouring his love for writing.

The “Notting Hill” star admits he has long planned to put pen to paper to fulfil his literary dreams, but he’s been holding off until he is more financially stable, reported ok.co.uk.

“I have always promised myself: ‘When you have made some nice films and earned some money, you are going to finally write your novel,’” he said.

Grant admits he started writing his first book several years ago, but he’s not found the time to complete the story because he’s always tempted away from his computer by new movie projects.

“I don’t know if it is laziness or some kind of fear of failure. (I think) shouldn’t I rather make a film, earn money and work with beautiful women?” he added.

Rihanna

Singer Rihanna is upset as she won’t be able to do her usual raunchy stage show in Abu Dhabi on New Year’s Eve because the organisers have told her to dress “conservatively”.

“Rihanna is tearing her hair out over what to do. She wanted to put on her most eccentric and provocative show here. A huge part of her show is her sexy stage gear. But the dress code in Abu Dhabi does not encourage excessively revealing outfits,” contactmusic.com quoted a source as saying.

Now Rihanna, 21, and her team are busy devising a new show complete with modest outfits which don’t show off too much of her body and won’t offend audiences in conservative Abu Dhabi.
